PORTRAITS DE VILLES

MARCO BARBON

Born in Rome in 1972, Marco lives in Marseille and Paris. In 2000 and 2001,
he obtains a Master’s degree in Philosophy at the Università La Sapienza in Rome
and another one in Theory of Arts at the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (E.H.E.S.S) in Paris. He ends up with a PHD in the Aesthetics of Photography again at E.H.E.S.S following a thesis entitled Chronotopies. Pour une esthétique du temps photographique. He then works for Magnum Photos, from 2003 to 2007.

Since 2007, he has organised several solo exhibitions in Paris (Asmara Dream at Galerie Chambre avec Vues, Alea jacta est at Galerie Philippe Chaume), in
Aix-en-Provence (Chronotopie at Galerie la Non-Maison), in Rome (A.O.I. Tracce
di una colonizzazione
at Fondazione Pastificio Cerere, Cronotopie at B-Gallery, Senza peso at One Piece Art), in Marrakech and Casablanca (Maroc 2005-2011 at Galerie 127, Casablanca at FNAC and Galerie de l'Aimance).

In the mean time, his work has been shown in various group exhibitions such as
J’aime les panoramas in 2015 at Musée d’Art et d’Histoire (Geneva) and MuCEM (Marseille), Peace be with you at Le Magasin de Jouets (Arles, 2014), Un Maroc raconté autrement at Hôtel de Sauroy (Paris, Mois de la Photo 2014), J’ai posé mon regard sur ton rivage… and Portraits de femmes at Galerie 127 (Marrakech, 2013
and 2014), Thanks to Luigi Ghirri at Hôtel de Sauroy (Paris, 2012), Maroc :
cet incandescent objet du désir
at Galerie 127 (2012), Italian emerging photography
at Institut Culturel Italien (Paris, 2010), Quelques nouveaux regards at Galerie
La Chambre Claire (Annecy, 2007). He frequently exhibits in Art Fairs such as Paris Photo, Fotofever, AKAA, Marrakech Art Fair, etc.

His works also includes video projects such as Temps de pose (2010) and Vincenzina (2003) which was programmed at Festival du Cinéma Italien (Nice) and at Cinéma
Le Latina (Paris).

Several catalogs were made after his exhibitions (Les Pas Perdus, A.O.I. Tracce di una colonizzazione, Chronotopie, Casablanca). Marco also collaborated with be-poles
so to publish Asmara in the collection Portraits de ville (2014).
